Lakes & Rivers
Lake Arbutus in Hatfield, WI is just 7 miles away with a beautiful large beach, boat landing and park area. It is nice for fishing, canoeing, swimming and other water recreation. Hatfield also has a large flea market/ craft fair several times a year.
In Merrillan there are 2 water areas, Oakwood Lake and Trow (Lower) Lake. Lower Lake has a more private swimming area and a boat landing. Both have picnic areas and shelters. Oakwood Lake has a nice playground and a beautiful waterfall. Quite often we see bald eagles, herons, otters and other wild life. It is a good fishing area.
The Black River runs though the County. You can rent canoes to ride down it. It is a very scenic ride.
There is also the Wazee Park area that has a man-made lake. It was a mine that has filled in over time with water. There is swimming, non-motor boating and scuba diving. They say they have seen sunfish resting in bird nests underwater. The lake is over 300 ft. deep. There are also hiking and bicycle trails. The area has been brought back to nature.
